Who better to ask for a good pediatrician than another doctor?

A patient, for one. But another doctor is a close second. That’s why we pulled our list of top black pediatricians in St Louis from St. Louis Magazine’s most recent list of Best Doctors, recommended by their peers. There are 180 doctors in pediatrics that made the magazine’s cut, and fewer than 10 are black.

O’FALLON

WAY TO GROW PEDIATRICS

Dr. Trina Blythe is an assistant professor at Washington University with more than 20 years of experience. She graduated from Albany Medical College in 1996 and completed her residency at Albany Medical Center Hospital, Way to Grow reported. She serves hospitals including Barnes-Jewish, Progress West and St. Louis Children’s.

NORTH ST. LOUIS COUNTY

ST. LUKE’S PEDIATRIC CARE CENTER

Dr. Edith Colbert has been a pediatrician for more than 29 years. She graduated from Vanderbilt University’s medical school and completed her residency at Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital, according to St. Luke’s Pediatric Care Center. Dr. Colbert is also affiliated with St. Mary’s Hospital in St. Louis, the hospital reported.

CENTRAL WEST END

ST. LOUIS CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL

Dr. Dee Hodge III, a pediatrics professor at Washington University, is also the associate director of clinical affairs for emergency services at St. Louis Children’s Hospital, according to the hospital. He completed medical school at the University of California in San Francisco in 1978 and residency at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia in 1983.

ST. LOUIS CITY

ST. LOUIS UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL

Dr. Marilyn Maxwell specializes in internal medicine and pediatrics and has more than 35 years of experience, according to SSM Health.

She graduated from St. Louis University’s medical school in 1981 and completed her residency at the St. Louis University Health Sciences Center. Dr. Maxwell is also on the Continuing Medical Education committee at St. Louis University’s medical school, according to the university.

CHESTERFIELD

ST. LOUIS PEDIATRIC ASSOCIATES

Dr. Thomas McKinney has more than 20 years of experience in pediatrics and has been at St. Louis Pediatric Associates since 1994, according to the company.

Dr. McKinney graduated from Washington University’s medical school in 1980 then went on to complete his residency at St. Louis Children’s Hospital. He also has a university appointment at Washington University’s medical school in clinical pediatrics.

NORTH ST. LOUIS

NASH PEDIATRICS

Dr. Alison Nash, a mother of four, has been a pediatrician at St. Louis Children’s Hospital for nearly 30 years, according to Washington University. She graduated from the Baylor College of Medicine in 1981 and completed her residency at the Naval Hospital Oakland during her 11 years of service. She has been a pediatric residency instructor since 1994, and her practice, Nash Pediatrics, is a member of Washington University Clinical Associates.

ST. LOUIS CITY

CARDINAL GLENNON CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL

Dr. Aki Puryear, a pediatric orthopedic surgeon, has more than 20 years of experience. He graduated from Case Western Reserve University’s hospital in 1996 and went on to complete his residency at the University of Michigan hospitals, according to his web bio. He is a member of the SLUCare Physician Group and an associate professor of orthopedic surgery at St. Louis University. His specialty is spine and limb deformities.
