THINGS TO DO

New Orleans is the best place to travel if you want to let loose with little judgement. Use the city’s carefree culture as an excuse to get out of your comfort zone and try something new.

Don’t waste your time on omelettes, salads and burgers. Get shrimp and grits, gumbo, po’ boys, etouffee, red beans and rice and oysters, Honeycomb mom Jerusha Washington said. Drink, dance and laugh with the people you love.

That’s exactly what the seven writers of Honeycomb Moms did when we celebrated 10 years in Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority together in The Big Easy.

THINGS TO DO

Even though the Super Bowl was in my home city of Atlanta, I did not watch the game. Reason No. 1: I’m blaAck. Reason No. 2: Reason No. 1 won’t be changing anytime soon.

THINGS TO DO

Many people ask my husband and I what we will get our daughter for the holidays. And when I answer nothing, we are met with surprise, confusion and sometimes looks of disappointment. We want to have a holiday season full of memories not toys she probably won’t play with through the new year.

THINGS TO DO

I know better than to seriously call myself poor, but I’m certainly not rich.

My essentials are travel, food and repaying debt. I like to keep my in-state entertainment budget as close to 0 as possible outside of the occasional pedicure or meal with friends.

Free festivals and a solid amount of research keep my family and I from complete hibernation, which I secretly suspect my husband would love.
